Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to George and/or Albert Black, Somerfield or Confluence, PA, circa 1865-1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooling to body and shoulder, ribbed handles, and semi-rounded rim, the front and reverse decorated with a sweeping floral motif with graduated leaves, applied over slip-coated clay. Brushed freehand "2" to shoulder on front. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. One handle with two chips and a small in-the-firing surface chip to one terminal. A small in-the-firing chip to interior of rim, beside a second small chip. A 3 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark to reverse.
