Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S. HART. / FULTON.", New York State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body perched on a stylized branch, beside a cobalt-script "3", underscored by looping lines. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Two hairlines extending up front, measuring 3 5/8" and 7/8".Some light fry to cobalt and faint traces of old yellow paint to surface, heavier on underside. A small spout chip beside a small, semi-circular crack to spout. Three very minor spout nicks.
