Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Dog with Basket Decoration, Stamped "S. HART / FULTON," NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a standing dog with striped and spotted body, carrying a basket in its mouth. Stylized ground below composed of dashed and dotted trails. Slip-trailed "4" with flourish above dog. One of only a few Samuel Hart dog crocks that we have ever offered, this example featuring crisp slip-trailing and exceptional color. A 6" crack from rim on reverse and staining to reverse. A few shallow flakes on interior of rim. Otherwise excellent condition.
