Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Slip-Trailed Standing Dog with Basket Decoration, Stamped "S. HART / FULTON," circa 1860, straight-sided crock with handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt dog holding a basket in its mouth. Dog decorated with numerous dots and stripes, and depicted in standing pose with upturned tail on a heavily slip-trailed ground. Script "5" in cobalt above decoration. A highly desirable subject in stoneware decoration. Excellent condition; handle chip, rim chip, and small kiln mark on reverse. Also a stone ping on bottom of interior. Height 12 1/8".
