Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Dog Decoration, Stamped "S. HART / FULTON," NY State origin, circa 1860, large-sized crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a standing dog carrying a basket in its mouth. Heavy striped and spotted details to dog's body. Elaborate stylized ground cover below. Slip-trailed above with a "6" underscored by a looping flourish. Minor bubbling to cobalt. Crock is slightly out-of-round with a 4" in-the-firing separation on interior of rim on reverse, visible as a 4" line on exterior of reverse. The separation on the interior is filled and colored. A tight 5" hairline from rim to left of decoration. H 12".
