Small-Sized Stoneware Presentation Pitcher, Dated "Aug. 12. 1897", possibly Cowden, Harrisburg, PA, 1897, ovoid pitcher with flared collar, the front featuring the incised and cobalt-highlighted name, "Christ Geiger. / Aug. 12. 1897" under a clear salt glaze. Interior with Albany slip glaze. Several Christian Geigers can be found in the 1900 U.S. Census from a number of states. This pitcher, consistent in color with Cowden stoneware, may have been made for Christian Geiger of Harrisburg, who, in the 1900 Census was a forty-two-year-old planing mill worker. Missing handle. A small rim chip on reverse with 2" line descending from it. H 5".
