Rare Cobalt-Decorated Spittoon, attributed to Nathan Clark, Athens, NY, circa 1835, cylindrical form with coved sides, tooled shoulder and base, and carved oval opening, decorated around the opening and body with slip-trailed wreath and swag motifs. Reverse with brushed cobalt tulip. An unusual form for this maker. A T-shaped line descending a few inches from the shoulder.Two tiny nicks to carved opening at shoulder. A small in-the-firing ping to top surface of spittoon. H 3 3/4" ; Diameter 7 1/8".
