Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "CLARK & Co. / ROCHESTER.," NY State origin, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and tall, heavily tooled rim, brush-decorated with a large pinwheel-shaped floral motif featuring a cross-hatched interior and alternating thin and broad, curving leaves. Freehand "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent maker, design, and color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two minor in-the-firing surface fissures to underside, not visible on interior. H 11 1/8".
