Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration of a Man's Bust, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1830, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a brushed design of a man's bust with large eye and open mouth. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced GA collection. A thin 2 1/2" crack on underside, extending onto base, where it runs 3 1/2" horizontally. Some in-the-firing contact marks, kiln residue, and light staining to upper portion of jug. A few shallow, in-the-firing chips to bottom edge.
