Scarce One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Stenciled Floral Motifs, probably Palatine, WV origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and rounded rim molding, decorated on the front with three elaborate stenciled designs featuring scrolled stems and bluebell blossoms. Additionally decorated on each side of the collar with the same stenciled floral motif. As-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to spout involving a piece of adhered clay, as well as a burn to left side of spout. Underside with some in-the-firing surface fissures, not visible on interior. A few additional in-the-firing contact marks to surface, including a 1" surface chip near base.
