Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Stamped "P. HERRMANN", Baltimore, MD, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with squared rim and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two brushed floral motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with Peter Herrmann two-gallon capacity mark under one handle. Included with a swag-decorated lid of Maryland or Pennsylvania origin. Crock with a top-to-bottom in-the-firing crack from rim, not visible on exterior, thin cracks extending partway up body of crock from underside, and a few rim chips. Lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition.
