Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "HAMILTON & / JONES / GREENSBORO, / PA", circa 1875, large-sized jug with tooled shoulder and applied handles at the shoulder, the front featuring stenciled fern designs above and below Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling. Base with stenciled "5" flanked by foliate motifs. Desirable form. Provenance: From an over forty-year private collection. A salt drip to shoulder and one handle. A 1" spout chip to reverse. Two chips to underside, possibly in-the-firing. H 19".
