Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1865, stylishly-potted pitcher with ovoid body and tall, narrow collar accented with tooled moldings, decorated around the body with three brushed leaf motifs in the Morgantown style. Additional large leaf decoration to sides of collar. Handle decorated with freehand stripes. Excellent form. Pitchers produced at the Thompson Pottery are considered rare. Large restored section to rim and collar, extending to portion spout. A 2" in-the-firing crack from rim on reverse. Restoration to base area of pitcher.
