Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Northeastern U.S. origin, second half 19th century, a two-gallon jar with elaborate cobalt floral decoration, stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD. / BURLINGTON, VT.", paired with a five-gallon jug with with stylized cobalt floral spray, stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.". Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Jar in very nice condition with some shallow chips and wear to inner rim for lid, a minor in-the-firing base chip, and light water glass staining to surface. Jug in excellent condition with very minor spout wear and some faint traces of old pinkish-purple paint to surface.
