Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape-and-Tassel Decoration, New Jersey origin, circa 1835, bowl-shaped jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed drape-and-tassel motif, accents with spots. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals on front. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 2" glazed-over, inverted Y-shaped surface line from rim, not visible on interior. A 2" glazed-over line to edge of handle, not visible on interior. A 6 1/2" in-the-firing separation crack on reverse, not visible on interior. A 2" in-the-firing separation on interior of rim, not visible on exterior. A minor rim chip on reverse and other very minor rim wear. A 2 3/4" in-the-firing flake to underside. A thin 2 1/2" surface line to base area, not visible on interior.
