Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "R.W. RUSSELL / BEAVER. PA", circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with tooled midsection, applied lug handles, and tall rim with inner molding for lid, the front decorated with a wavy vine bearing graduated leaves, applied over a heavy slip. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals and additional brushed cobalt on tops of handles. A 2 3/4" hairline on underside, continuing 2 3/4" up reverse side of jar. A minor chip to inner rim for lid. Minor chipping to one handle. Some light surface wear to reverse. A short, faint surface line to base area on front.
