Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tab handles and squared rim with inner ledge to hold a lid, decorated on the front and reverse with a boldly-brushed, two-stemmed clover plant design. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt underneath each handle. Strong color. Excellent condition with two small spots of bloating to one side and a chip to inner ledge for lid.
