Stoneware GAR Souvenir Canteen, Stamped "HINRICHS CROCKERY CO DAVENPORT, IOWA.", late 19th century, miniature, molded canteen, featuring the relief design of an eagle above a flag and star, surmounted by the abbreviation, "GAR", all surrounded by the inscription "COMPLIMENTS AUG. WENTZ POST No 1 DAVENPORT IOWA". Reverse with relief inscription, "26TH ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT / DEPT OF IOWA / GAR / DAVENPORT IOWA / JUNE / 12-13-14 / 1900". Surface covered in a Bristol slip glaze with light cobalt highlights to front and reverse and heavier cobalt highlight to "HINRICHS CROCKERY CO" mark along bottom edge. Canteen in excellent condition. String missing most of original red-and-white covering. H 3 1/4".
