Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "From / James Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, Pa.", circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooled spout and two applied handles at the shoulder, the front decorated wit graduated freehand stripes and vining above James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Base with freehand stripe below a bold-faced "4", flanked by stenciled flowers. Two additional stenciled flowers with a freehand stem to right of number 4. One handle crudely restored. Otherwise excellent condition with three salt drips and an in-the-firing contact mark to reverse.
