Four-Gallon Westfield, MA Stoneware Advertising Jug, Stamped "FLETCHER & NORTON / DEALERS IN / HARDWARE, PAINTS GROCERIES & C / WESTFIELD, MASS", circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed floral design featuring spots and scrolled trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. In-the-firing chips to top of spout. An in-the-firing chip to handle and a small piece of adhered clay to handle. Fry to cobalt. A 4 1/2" at base on side of jug. A 1 1/4" line at base, continuing 3/4" onto underside. A 1 3/8" hairline to base of handle. Mottling to surface.
