Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "T.W.J.L", Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with footed base, flared rim, and tapered shoulder embellished with heavy tooling, decorated on the front with two impressed, scallop-edged drape motifs below the initials "T.W. J.L", all highlighted in cobalt slip. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Base chips, the largest of which measures 1 3/4", is primarily visible when the jar is turned over and likely occurred in the firing. A faint 8 1/4" hairline on side of jar, extending 1 3/4" onto underside. A 1 1/4" rim chip. Some light surface wear to midsection. H 9 3/4".
