Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug, Stamped "T. WARNE. Co / SOUTH AMBOY", New Jersey origin, circa 1800, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, featuring the impressed maker's mark, "T. WARNE. Co / SOUTH AMBOY", highlighted in greenish-brown slip. Additional greenish-brown slip decoration to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 1 1/8" semi-circular crack in spout, with some shallow chipping along crack line. Firing flaws, including in-the-firing base chips, a contact mark, and iron pings. Mottling to surface.
