Outstanding Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1835, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a very large, two-stemmed flowering plant motif featuring cluster-shaped blossoms. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a vertical drape-like brushwork underneath each handle. A smooth, shallow chip to top of rim. A small, partially glazed-over chip to one handle. Opposite handle with a 1 3/4" surface line and minor wear to one terminal. Two small base chips and a 1 1/4" chip to underside at edge.
