Unusual Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Banner, Inscribed "S & M", Stamped "NEW YORK / STONE WARE CO / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design of a banner, accented with stripes and spots, inscribed with the initials "S & M". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with staining to surface, a minor nick to rim on front, and a minor, in-the-firing iron ping to rim on reverse.
