Very Rare Twenty-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Rose Decoration, Stenciled "JOS. ENEIX / & / EVANS / NEW GENEVA PA", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with elaborately-stenciled rose motifs flanking the stenciled signature of the short-lived partnership of Joseph Eneix and William Evans, "JOS. ENEIX / & / EVANS / NEW GENEVA PA". Bold-faced stenciled "20" at base. Cobalt stripes to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent size, color, decoration, featuring rare New Geneva maker's stenciling. Chips to interior of rim. Some surface lines to reverse, not visible on the interior. A large, tight Y-shaped crack on underside. Some light staining. H 23 1/2".
