Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "NICHOLS & BOYNTON / BURLINGTON, VT", circa 1856-1859, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering vine featuring a fan-shaped blossom and dotted embellishments. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. An in-the-firing surface chip near base on front, which is glazed over. Some minor wear to surface. Two in-the-firing base chips. Some bubbling to a few spots of cobalt.
