Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, footed base, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a finely slip-trailed watchspring motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice overall condition. A 7/8" base chip. A small surface chip near base. A small, faint Y-shaped surface line to one side, not visible on interior. Small rim chips. A short, minor in-the-firing line to top of rim.
