One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON, L.I.", New York State origin, circa 1827-1829, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an abstract floral motif on the reverse and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and handle terminals. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Excellent condition with a small stone ping to one handle and a shallow chip to underside at edge, possibly in the firing.
