Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Ochre Date "40," Stamped "LYMAN & CLARK / GARDINER," Maine origin, circa 1840, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout and applied ribbed handle, decorated with the large ochre date "40" with brushed stripe below. Crazing throughout surface, including handle. Hairlines on underside, extending partway up sides of jug. Small base chip and small spout chip. H 13 1/2".
