Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "S. RISLEY / NORWICH," CT origin, circa 1840, squat-shaped pitcher with ovoid body and tall collar, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt flower surrounded by dots. Scarce mark on a difficult-to-find form. Two chips on interior of rim. 1" chip on exterior of rim with 1 3/4" hairline extending downward from it. Spidering crack extending partway up front. 1 3/8" T-shaped hairline extending up from base on reverse. 4" crack extending up from base on side of pitcher and 1" onto underside. Some bubbling to cobalt. H 9 1/2".
