Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration and New York City Advertising, New York City origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "JOHN . KANE / 351 3rd AVE / NEW YORK". Cobalt highlights to capacity mark. Two chips and a hairline to one handle. Two shallow chips to interior of rim. Knicks to inner rim where a lid would rest. Some staining to surface.
