Very Rare Stoneware Bank with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid bank with tooled shoulder, stepped finial, and carved horizontal slot, decorated with a two-stemmed flowering plant emanating from the base. Reverse with highly-unusual sawtoothed design. Cobalt highlights to incised banding and finial. Stoneware banks from Baltimore are considered exceptionally rare. This example is the first of its style that we have seen. Provenance: Excavated in Baltimore in the mid 1990s. Broken into two pieces and professionally restored. H 4 7/8".
