Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, footed base, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design with opposing leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Jar is out-of-round. Rim chips. Approximately 2 1/2" hairline from rim. A Y-shaped hairline on underside, continuing 4 1/2" up base. Long, thin inverted T-shaped crack at base. A small, glazed-over chip to underside at edge.
