Very Rare Lidded Canning Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with flared rim, decorated around the shoulder with a brushed drape design. Includes original lid with cobalt wavy line decoration and cobalt-highlighted knob. An unusually-tall flange on the underside of the lid secures the lid on top of the jar. Few lidded jars from this time period have survived. The cobalt decoration on this lid adds to its rarity. Jar with rim chips and small, shallow base chips. Lid survives in remarkable condition with two shallow chips to interior edge of flange on underside, two tiny chips to edge, and some in-the-firing crazing to surface. H (including lid) 9 1/2".
