Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON. L I", New York State origin, circa 1827-1829, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a stylized floral design on the reverse with circular blossom. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. A thin 2" crack from rim on reverse. A few short, minor hairlines. A 2 3/4" surface line on underside, not visible on interior. A tiny base nick.
