Outstanding Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt "Watermelon Stripe" Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with rounded shoulder, wide spout, and ribbed handle, decorated with a rare and visually-appealing design of nine vertically-brushed cobalt stripes. Excellent size, decoration, and color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the grandfather of the consignor in the 1950s. Excellent condition with a minor spout nick, the left side of jug with a small in-the-firing contact mark and thin adhered sliver of clay. H 9 1/2".
