Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Folky Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "SMITH & DAY / MANUFACTURERS", Norwalk, CT origin, circa 1840, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated with a haphazard cobalt application, possibly representing an animal. Shoulder impressed with "SMITH & DAY, / MANUFACTURERS," mark. The "NORWALK, CT" portion of the stamp did not take on this example. A 1" rim chip to side of jar. A glazed-over iron ping to front, below decoration. Two tiny glazed-over iron pings to bottom edge. H 8".
