Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. /GREENSBORO. / PA.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a central design of grape cluster hanging from a leafy vine. Freehand stripe decoration to rim and base. Stenciled number 5 with stenciled flourishes at base. Incised X on underside. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing surface flake to shoulder on front. Two chips to one handle. A chip to each end of opposite handle. A minor stone ping to interior of rim. Some light surface wear.
