Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Cobalt Potted Plant Design, Stamped "NORTH BAY", John C. Waelde, North Bay, NY, circa 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a stenciled design of a three-leafed plant emanating from a pot. The cobalt slip is applied with sponge, giving a visually-appealing dappled texture to the plant motif. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable maker and design. A 1 3/4" section of handle reglued. A small glazed-over iron ping to side of jug near base.
