Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E.H. FARRAR / NORTH BAY", New York State origin, circa 1851, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed tulip beside a freehand number 2. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A difficult-to-find, short-lived maker's mark. Rim chips including a 1 1/4" flake to rim on side of jar. Wear and a small shallow chip to inner rim where a lid would rest. Some light water glass staining to exterior surface. Water glass staining to interior.
