Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "ROME / N & A SEYMOUR", New York State origin, circa 1830, highly-ovoid cooler with open handles, tapered spout, and incised wavy line decoration around shoulder. Decorated with an abstract design of six stylized flower blossoms interspersed with cross wavy lines resembling a star. Additional swag decoration to the left and right. Impressed on spout "ROME" and across the shoulder with the name "N & A SEYMOUR". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, and handle terminals. Scarce maker and form with excellent decoration. Entire bung hole restored. A small in-the-firing flake to top of spout and two small in-the-firing flakes to top of left handle. Thin lines and crazing to base. A few other short lines to reverse, one of which is glazed-over. Albany slip smear on reverse. H 16 3/4".
