Unusual Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Dated 1831, Old Bridge, NJ origin, possibly Bissett Family, 1831, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of leaves in the Old Bridge style, below the large brushed date "1831". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Very long, sealed curving crack from rim, starting to right of decoration, extending through right leaf, then under decoration, and onto shoulder on reverse. A small rim chip and a few minor rim nicks. A minor glazed-over rim chip on interior of rim.
