Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised and Brushed Floral Decorations, Bissett Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with footed based, heavily-tooled shoulder, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif with clustered blossom and heavily-veined leaves, as well as on the reverse with a brushed flower blossom, in the style now attributable to members of the Bissett family based on the recent research of Don Carpentier. Provenance: Found decades ago in the northeastern U.S. 2" restored rim chip. A few other smaller, shallow rim chips. Circular in-the-firing contact marks to surface. Chipping to foot.
