Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Abial Price, Matawan, NJ, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with highly-unusual stepped rim molding, tooled shoulder, and large lug handles, decorated with a delicately-brushed tulip plant bearing five blossoms. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent color, form, and decoration. 3 1/2" hairline from rim. 1 1/4" flaked area to top of rim. Chips to molding at base of rim. Minor base nicks and a smooth, shallow in-the-firing base chip.
