Half-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON / PALATINE, W. VA," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with maker's stenciling surrounding a a stylized foliate design. Freehand stripe below rim and at base. Light wear to surface of front. Small in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. 4 3/4" crack from rim. Base chip on reverse.
