Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "G. & A. Black," Somerfield, PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, heavily-decorated with a series of seven vertical groups of graduated swags around the midsection. Impressed with "G. & A. Black" maker's mark below a one-gallon capacity mark at shoulder. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in a Western PA family to the consignor. Rim chips. Two long, sealed cracks from rim.
