Two Slip-Decorated Redware Plates, Norwalk, CT origin, circa 1840, a large plate with coggled edge and abstract decoration of looping and wavy lines in yellow slip, paired with a smaller plate with coggled edge, decorated with the initials "WB" in yellow slip. Provenance: Fresh-to-the-market examples from a long-term Midwestern collection. Larger plate with wear to slip, a shallow 7/8" chip to rim, and other minor nicks and chips to rim. Smaller plate with large crack from edge, large rim, chip, flakes to slip, and some restoration to slip. Diameter (of larger plate) 12".
