Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK JR / ATHENS NY," mid 19th century, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a bird with vine in its beak, facing a large flower atop a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Rim secured with old piece of wire. Large top-to-bottom crack on reverse. Some fry to bird decoration. 4" hairline from rim on front. 1 1/8" loss to one handle. Minor chip to opposite handle.
