Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "W-A-LEWIS / GALES-VILLE N-Y," circa 1858, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of basket overflowing with large flower blossoms, vines, and grape clusters. This jug is decorated with a dark purplish-blue slip, which appears to be a combination of cobalt and manganese. Approximately 7" crack from spout on right side of jug. Otherwise excellent condition with some discoloration to surface.
