Four-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical cooler with tooled collar, applied lug handles, and circular bung hole, decorated with brushed cobalt tulips emanating from the bunghole, horizontal tulips above, and swags around the collar. Cobalt decoration to bunghole, including unusual brushed rays. Cobalt dashes under handles. Reverse with additional cobalt swag decoration and horizontal tulip. Curving crack from rim extending onto shoulder of reverse, with additional thin cracks extending off from it. Several rim chips. Heavy chipping to underside of handle. Hairlines in underside with a 4" Y-shaped line extending off from it up side of cooler. Staining to reverse.
